The Only Barrier to Doing the Works of Jesus

Introduction

Why aren’t we seeing the works of Jesus in our lives? Jesus already answered that question.

📖 Matthew 17:20 — “Because of your unbelief.”

Not because you lack anointing. Not because you lack knowledge. Not because you lack gifting.

Because of unbelief.

The cause of our unbelief is often rooted in limiting beliefs about the reasons why Jesus did all his great works. So, let's explore this together.

1. Why Did Jesus Heal?

Studying the New Testament, we find in Acts 10:38 this declaration from Apostle Paul:

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power who went from place to place doing good and healing all those who were oppressed by the devil because God was with Him.”

Notice what it does NOT say.

It does not say:

  • Because He was God.

  • Because He had spiritual gifts.

  • Because He had more faith than everyone else.

This passage gives three criteria:

1️⃣ Holy Spirit2️⃣ Power3️⃣ God with Him

2. Do You Have the Same Criteria?

Let’s examine Scripture.

📖 Acts 2:38 — When you repent, you receive the Holy Spirit.

📖 Acts 1:8 — You shall receive power.

📖 2 Timothy 1:7 — God has given you a spirit of power.

📖 Matthew 28:20 — “I am with you always.”

You have:

  • The same Spirit.

  • The same power.

  • The same God with you.

So what’s missing?

Belief.

3. The Real Meaning of Unbelief

Unbelief is not only about doubting that Jesus is Lord. Unbelief is also doubting that God can work through you.

The disciples believed in Jesus. But they did not believe they could cast out the demon. So they couldn’t.

The barrier was in their own mind.

4. Stop Waiting for God to Do It

One of the greatest revelations I've received from the Holy Spirit is this:

The disciples healed while Jesus was still physically alive, this means that Jesus was not inside them yet like He is inside of us today.

So how did they heal? They also healed, the same way that Jesus did: God was with them.

Because God was with them. The same way God is with you.

So you don't need to be waiting for power. You just need to learn how to act on the power you already have.

5. Breaking Unbelief

So, how can break this kind of unbelief? By speaking the truth of the Word of God daily. The book of Romans teaches us that faith comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of God. In the same way, God speaking to Joshua told him that in order for him to be successful in his mission, he needed to meditate on the law of Moses day and night, and keep it in his mouth.

So, I suggest to start here: replace Jesus’ name in Acts 10:38 with your own. Confess it daily, as many times as you need until faith comes. You can also confess it during prayer.

“For you know how God anointed [Your Name] with the Holy Spirit and with power… because God was with her.”

Declare it. Meditate on it. Believe it. Because when belief settles in your heart, obedience follows.

Conclusion

Jesus did not die for you to live beneath your calling. He died for you to be just like Him.

📖 John 14:12 — “He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also.”

The only question left is: Do you believe?
